A community update on two important committees and our local actions
Key Committees Responding to the Housing Crisis
In response to the growing challenges related to housing shortages, evictions, and homelessness, two important committees have emerged to address these issues collaboratively and strategically:
Locally: Comité Habitation with Concert’Action
At The Teapot 50+ Centre, we know that safe, stable housing is the foundation of well-being for seniors. Yet, more and more older adults in our community are facing housing insecurity and even the risk of eviction. Rising rents, a lack of affordable housing options, and limited support systems make it increasingly difficult for many seniors to remain in their homes and communities as they age.
That’s why we’re proud to share that the Comité Habitation Lachine is being reactivated, in partnership with Concert’Action Lachine and local community organizations. This important committee will bring together housing experts, community groups, advocates, and concerned residents to collaborate on strategies to prevent evictions and promote housing rights for vulnerable seniors.
The goal of this initiative is to:
Prevent evictions by identifying risks early and connecting seniors with resources and support;
Advocate for affordable housing solutions and policies that reflect the real needs of Lachine’s aging population;
Strengthen partnerships among local organizations to ensure no senior faces housing challenges alone;
