Special Community Projects: Engaging Seniors in Meaningful Initiatives
At The Teapot 50+ Centre, we believe in fostering meaningful connections and ensuring that older adults have opportunities to contribute to and shape their communities. Through various special projects, we create spaces where seniors can actively participate, share their experiences, and make a lasting impact.
Collaborative Community Initiatives
Through partnerships with Concert’Action Lachine, the Lachine Library, and the TRAIL project, we empower seniors to take an active role in shaping initiatives that enhance neighbourhood inclusivity, intergenerational programs, and accessible community practices. By participating in these projects, older adults help build a more connected and inclusive society.
Quartier Inclusif et Résilient (QIR) & St. Pierre Action Lachine Citizen Committee
The Teapot 50+ Centre proudly participates in community festivals during the winter and summer, offering a kiosk and interactive activities. These events help connect residents with valuable resources, ensuring that the St. Pierre community is aware of the services available to them.
Project Lachine Est – Dominion Square Event
To promote awareness of local history and urban development, The Teapot 50+ Centre provided a shuttle service for older adults, offering them an opportunity to explore the history of Lachine East and learn about its evolving landscape. This initiative fosters engagement and ensures that seniors remain informed and involved in the growth of their community.
Digital Access Through Literacy Unlimited
By collaborating with Literacy Unlimited, we help older adults access technology at the Lachine Library, ensuring they have the digital literacy tools needed to stay connected, informed, and engaged in an increasingly digital world.
Clothing Drive for New Arrivals – An Intercultural Approach
The Teapot 50+ Centre helped organize a clothing drive to support newcomers, with seniors playing a key role in welcoming and assisting new arrivals. Through this initiative, older adults:
Offer practical support by donating clothing and resources.
Share personal experiences of adapting to a new country.
Foster intercultural exchange, helping newcomers feel connected and supported.
By involving seniors in this initiative, we bridge generations and cultures, reinforcing the idea that community support is for everyone, by everyone. This not only provides essential aid but also creates meaningful opportunities for connection, empathy, and shared understanding.
At The Teapot 50+ Centre, our special projects highlight the invaluable contributions of older adults, proving that community engagement has no age limit.
